Terpenes are the medicinal molecules extracted from essential oils.
They are non-psychoactive hydrocarbons that have been studied for medicinal use for centuries. They are able to relieve chronic pain, inflammation, and muscle tension, and interact with the body in unique ways.
A few examples: Limonene an anxiolytic, active against bacteria. b-caryophyllene — anti-inflammatory, via CB2 binding. Myrcene a sedating muscle relaxant. a-pinene — antimicrobial, acetylcholinesterase inhibitor to name a few.
They are lipophillic compounds which allow them to easily permeate through the skin.
Organic MCT C8, C10 Coconut oil benefits:
Instant source of energy for the brain. Promotes healthy weight loss. Helps in managing epilepsy, Autism, and Alzheimer's. Contains fatty acids that fight against yeast and bacteria and can help control blood sugar.
The Entourage Effect
Briefly explained as the way that terpenes are synergistic compounds that work along side CBD, THC and other cannabinoids to achieve greater results as a group rather than when extracted and administered in isolation.
Beta-Caryophyllene
A sesquiterpene with a sweet, woody, spicy, clove-like smell. Beta-caryophyllene is a cannabinoid that activates only the CB2 (non central) cannabinoid receptor. Effective against neuroinflammation, and also in thermal hyperalgesia. This is considered an anti-inflammatory as well as preventing lipid oxidation and it has a gastric-protective effect.
Geraniol
Used for various bacteria and certain fungi. Anti-inflammatory as well as topical drug enhancer. Studies have found that geraniol affects pain neuron sites in the brain.
Limonene
Limonene is a potent antidepressant and anti-anxiety treatment. Anti-inflammatory, studied for breast, prostate and pancreatic cancer. Increases social interaction and decreases immobility time. Traditionally used as a house remedy for acne and athlete's foot.
Myrcene
Hypothesized to assist various compounds to enter cells through the permeation of the lipid membrane. Relaxes muscles and induces sleep.
Humulene
Powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-pain compound. Anti-cancer properties. Acts as an appetite suppressant, showing promise for weight loss.
Linalool
Acts as an anticonvulsant, similar to diazepam. Linalool has been used as a relaxant and for anxiety treatment for thousands of years. Linalool has been proven to sedate mice and mitigate anxiety.
